Toontown Corporate Clash is a completely free-to-play massively multiplayer online game designed to be the new experience of a game many of us loved. This is a game designed for players of all ages. Corporate Clash is a  recreation of the MMORPG Toontown Online. The game was shut down by Disney in 2013 with tens of thousands of players still interested in the game, and our goal is to bring back its legacy while adding new content to the game that has been requested by players for years. This is a volunteer effort as the organization is a registered non-profit organization.

I joined the Corporate Clash Crew of about 50+ members in the Summer of 2020 as a technical team member. Our team is split up into different subteams consisting of Creative, Moderation, Game Design, Community, Support, and Technical. Within the Creative team, there are 3D Animator, 3D Modeler, Brand Artist, Comic Artist, Texture Artist, Sound Engineer, and UX/UI Designer. I work closely with the Creative and Game Design teams most. This is because I work behind programming for the team and actually implementing all the ideas that the team comes up with into code through the Panda3D game engine that the game works on. The game itself is powered by a very elementary or basic graphics engine that is all based upon Python libraries and little to no 3D viewers like Unity or Unreal Engine. This is primarily because the original game was created on this engine, but learning it has really elevated my understanding of computer graphics at a core. My job on the team is to program, however, I have taken a bigger role on the team in making more training material for the team to get them started easier in the codebase and how it's organized. This training program can either be used for members who have no programming knowledge and are already on the team working on another subteam or new technical team members looking to learn the codebase for the first time. From this experience, I have learned a lot about web development, backend development with Amazon Web Services, codebase infrastructure, Astron, Distributed Objects, and iterative updates.

This experience has opened my eyes to a lot of things that I would have never learned about in traditional programming courses. For example, I have learned how an actual team runs that is developing software fully remote and online. My crewmates are such interesting people who come from a plethora of backgrounds that deviate from the standard perception of "Computer Science" from having troubling childhoods to unconventional education, it's really inspiring to see how much this community has made a difference on so many people's lives. Also, it has touched me to see how programming can be embraced and channeled into an amazing project that so many people are passionate about.
